Project Overview
In the heart of Ontario's fight against COVID-19, the fragmented and inefficient vaccine booking systems presented a significant hurdle. Recognizing the urgency, our team embarked on a transformative project: Vax-Check. This mobile website aimed to streamline the vaccination booking process, making it accessible, user-friendly, and efficient for all Ontarians.
Problem Statement:
Ontarians faced a daunting maze of vaccination booking options. Fragmented systems, poor usability, and miscommunication led to frustration and missed opportunities for vaccination. Our mission? To design a unified system that simplifies the booking experience, ensuring no one is left behind in the race against COVID-19.
Design Opportunity:
This student project sought to bridge the gap between Ontarians and their vaccinations. By synthesizing existing research and identifying gaps in current systems, we aimed to create Vax-Check: a one-stop COVID vaccine booking system designed for ease, accessibility, and comprehensive service.
Research and Insights
Limited by time and budget, we dove into secondary research, analyzing studies and articles on Ontario's vaccination booking challenges. Our competitive analysis of existing platforms, including the Provincial Booking System and Shoppers Drug Mart portal, highlighted a dire need for integration and user-centric design.
Key Insights:
- A glaring lack of an integrated system prevented users from seeing all available vaccination centers based on their postal code.
- Users were forced to navigate multiple websites to access complete information, leading to frustration and potential disengagement.
- The absence of a unified account system made managing appointments cumbersome.
- Critical information and booking options were scattered, leading to a disjointed user experience.
The User Journey Redefined:
With these insights, we envisioned "Vax-Check" — a system allowing users to easily find and book vaccinations at any center in Ontario without leaving the site. Our design would enable users to manage their appointments seamlessly, accommodating cancellations, rescheduling, and second-dose bookings all in one place.
Innovative Solutions:
- Integrated Map Interface: Utilizing users’ postal codes, ages, and health card types, Vax-Check displays all vaccination centers available to them, ensuring inclusivity and accessibility.
- Seamless Booking Experience: Vax-Check offers an all-in-one booking solution, eliminating the need to navigate away from the site, thereby streamlining the user journey.
- VoiceFlow Integration: Recognizing the diverse needs of Ontarians, we incorporated a voice-assisted booking feature, making the system accessible to users with varying abilities and preferences.
Design Process:
- Sketching a Vision: Initial sketches laid the foundation for our user flow, focusing on simplicity and clarity.
- Wireframes to Prototypes: Iterative design in Figma led to the creation of a high-fidelity prototype, tested for usability and user satisfaction.
- Voice Interaction: Using VoiceFlow, we developed a voice-based prototype, adding a layer of accessibility and innovation to Vax-Check.
